Printers are one of the most useful gadgets for both home and business use. They are easy and efficient to use but there can be mishaps and they can break down occasionally. But, printer repairs are easy.

How to Repair Your Printer

You just have to carry out a basic diagnosis to resolve the problem. There are common points of failure for printers that you can repair with a few steps. Some of the issues which are generally seen in many printers are listed below with their solution:

1. Paper Tray Repairs

Sometimes printers with multiple trays create issues. If the printer works fine from one tray but not from another tray that means the problem is with the tray’s rollers. Therefore, you need to take out the defective tray and check the rollers.

The rollers should be rough to touch and if they are smooth then you can repair the printer by replacing it. To remove the old rollers you have to slide them off the prong then place the new rollers onto the prong and push it in until it clicks into place. Now, slide the tray back and test the printer.

2. Power Supply Repairs

Another part to troubleshoot is the power supply. A standard power cord, desk jet, and proprietary power supply are generally used by most laser printers. If there is a problem with the power supply, your printer will turn off unexpectedly or it will not turn on. You have to touch your power supply with your hand to determine if it needs to be changed or not. Repair your printer by plugging in a new power supply to it.

3. Fuser Cartridge Repairs

The Fuser cartridge of the printer can also cause trouble if it is not working properly. Your printer will start making noise and also there will be image defects. Paper Jam also takes place if the fuser cartridge is not working properly. Therefore, you need to open the left-hand door and look for a black rectangular cartridge.

Flip the hinges holding the fuser. If the rollers on the fuser do not move easily then you should fix it. Take out the old fuser and slide the new fuser cartridge into the printer. Lock the new fuser into place and then flip the levers back to the locked position. Once you fix the fuser then turn on the printer on and check whether it works properly or not.

4. Print Jobs Repairs

If your printer does not respond to any command, maybe the spooler of the printer will be full with print commands. It generally deletes the print command but if that has not happened yet then you have to navigate to the spooler directory and delete the pending print jobs. Finally, you need to restart your printer and check if it is working.

Conclusion

Since printers are hardware equipment therefore there will be some minor associated issues. You can solve them without any professional help and that will be cost-free. Remember that these are just the troubleshooting steps to be followed on a standard printer and steps may vary from model to model.
